On Max Soffar and Recorded Interrogations


LIVINGSTON — Over the hisses and crackles of the audio tape, Max Soffar slurred his words in 1980 as he confessed to shooting two teenagers while robbing a Houston bowling alley. The two hours of footage followed at least 26 hours of unrecorded questioning over three days, which can only be accessed through the recollections of the police officers 
present and Soffar himself.
